We cannot wait to uncover Europe’s future chess champions.

The Judit Polgar Chess Foundation is looking forward to cooperating with the European Chess Union to promote awareness for chess in Europe. Our goal is to bring chess into the spotlight for the next generation and to create a memorable experience where youngsters can achieve exceptional competitive results.

 

Date: Saturday, 12th October 2019
Venue: Hungarian National Gallery, 1014 Budapest, Szent György tér 2.
Registration at venue: 10.30
Opening ceremony: 10.45, Round 1 starts at 11.00
Closing Ceremony: 17.00

 

 

Registration requirements: Talented chess players born 1st January 2007 or later with a FIDE rating of 1800 or higher (on the 1st July FIDE rating list) are welcome to participate. Pre-registration is required.

 

Pre-registration deadline: starting from 15th June until 15th September 2019 at the bottom of this page. Due to the capacity of the venue, limited number of participants may enter the competition. The applicants will receive a confirmation from the organizers, and the participants will be listed at the official website on 30th September 2019.

 

Entry fee: Free of charge to all participants.

 

Special invitation: The organisation will offer a free 2 night stay for foreign players with a FIDE rating of at least 1950. Please enter soon, this offer is limited!

 

Tournament rules: 9 rounds Swiss system. 10 minutes for each player plus 2 seconds bonus/ per move, according to FIDE rapid regulations. In case of a tie-break the prizes will be decided as following: 1. Scored points, 2. counter-match, 3. Berger Calculation.

If two players tie for first place, they will play a Tie-break Match. 2 games with alternating colors, 3 min/player + 2 sec/move. In case of 1-1 there will be a „suddendeath” match (Black has 4 minutes, White has 3 minutes and in case of a draw, Black will be the winner.)

Prizes:


The winner will be invited to visit the 82nd edition of the world-famous Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2020 in Wijk aan Zee, The Netherlands. This prize includes 2 round-trip tickets from his/her home country (winner and accompanying person) + a double room for 2 nights on the weekend of the 18th and 19th January in Wijk aan Zee. This includes entrance to the playing area and ’behind the scenes’ access as well as an opportunity to make the first move for one of the rounds!

 

The runner up will receive a very special and unique opportunity to meet top chess grandmasters and compete at one of the biggest European chess opens in 2020. The sponsor, Flashpoint, is looking forward to giving a once in a lifetime experience to the winner of this prize which includes 2 round-trip tickets (player and accompanying person), lodging in a double room and entry-fee​.

 

The third prize winner will receive a wooden chess set and board signed by non other than Judit Polgar herself.

 

All participants will receive a Global Chess Festival souvenir.
